GET AWAY IN 2020 - you deserve it!

Described as a ‘Jewel in the Irish Sea’, the Isle of Man, also known simply as Mann, is a magical and enchanting island, full of charm and surprises.

Beautiful scenery in the lush valleys, barren hills and rugged coastlines combined with a wealth of historic castles and buildings.

In 2016 Unesco designated the IOM a biosphere reserve (one of only 5 in the UK) marking it as one of the most beautiful spots in Britain to enjoy nature.

We head off to Castletown, the ancient capital of the Isle of Man, where we visit Castle Rushen, one of the best preserved medieval castles in the world. Inside the Castle you’ll be able to indulge in its history and hear from some of its inhabitants including Bishop Wilson. In the afternoon, we get the opportunity for a little time at leisure in Port Erin, which owes much of its existence to the Victorian tourists, who came for the beautiful sandy beach set in an enclosed harbour, local cafe’s and simple gardens, before boarding the steam train for the journey back to our hotel in Douglas.

The Laxey Wheel

SUNDAY 9th MAY, morning

Wednesday morning sees us head out on the Electric Railway to Laxey where we visit the Laxey Wheel. This feat of Victorian engineering and ingenuity is the largest surviving waterwheel of its kind in the world. The Lady Isabella as she is also known, served the mine for 70 years. Beyond the wheel, explore the mine and the trail to the mine ruins to learn more about the lives of the Laxey miners.

Snaefell Summit

SUNDAY 9th MAY, afternoon

From Laxey we board the Manx Electric Railway, which is the only electric mountain railway in the British Isles. The railway winds its way to the Island’s only mountain, Snaefell’s summit, where breathtaking views await. Peaked at 2,036 feet above sea level, you may be able to see some, or all, of the Seven Kingdoms - England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man and the kingdoms of heaven.
